Looking for Country Cottages

At some point or another in everyone's life, there has been one home that they have pictured in their mind as their perfect home. For some, it is a simple Victorian style house in a nice neighborhood. Others desire nothing more than a condo on a beach in Florida. Still others want to live in a mansion the size of a football field with servants to tend to their every need. Many people these days envision country cottage when they think of their dream home. Whatever your dream home may be, though, it is important that you know what to look for when you are seeking it.

This is no less true of country cottages than any other type of home. In fact, in some ways, it is more valid. When you begin looking for your dream home, there are a few things you need to understand right from the start. First and foremost of these is the fact that while you are searching for that perfect image of your dream home, chances are you will not find it. Now, before you become discouraged, there is more to that statement than you may see at first. You can find your dream home, in that you can find a home that is very much like your image of a perfect home, and even matches it in spirit.

But unless you have an endless budget and the resources to build your home from the ground up yourself, you probably will not find something that matches your image precisely. This means that when you are looking at country cottages, you need to be somewhat flexible about your standards of perfection. The second thing you need to understand is your needs for the home. What you need from a home you are planning to live in full time will be very different from what you need in a home you are only planning to vacation in. If you are going to be living in your cottage, for instance, you will have to be much more concerned about location in relation to anywhere you will need to go (such as your place of work, for instance) than you would if you are only going to be there a few days each month. If you are planning to use it as a vacation home, than you should be more concerned about atmosphere than location when looking at country cottages.

Once you have a grasp of your needs, you may have to change your perfect image a bit to fit them. This also relates to the necessity of keeping an open mind when looking for country cottages. Of course, just because your image changes it does not mean that it is any less perfect for you. After all, perfection is really made in the outcome of your search for country cottages, rather than the image you start out with. As long as the home you decide on meets your needs and at least most of your desires, than there is nothing to keep it from being the perfect home for you. Copyright (c) Kayla Berringer, 2006.
